Scottish Optometric Conference (SOC) 2009

The SOC will be held in the Glasgow Radisson Hotel on Sunday 22 November 2009. Full details are available on the Classified section, here.

NES Optometry Conference 2009

NES is running its first Scottish Conference and want to invite as many of the optometrists and dispensing opticians to attend what will be an exciting and instructive afternoon - as well as a good lunch.

The conference will take place on Sunday 22 November 2009 at the Radisson Hotel in Glasgow, the deadline for registration is Friday 30 October 2009. The full timetable and details of how to register is available to view/download (in PDF format) here.

Latest PCA and SGHD White Paper available

The 2009 PCA(O)2 which advises on 'Continuing Education and Training Allowance and the Glaucoma Patient Pathway' can be found here. The White Paper by the Scottish Government Health Directorates, released September 2009, can be found here.

NES invites tenders for Optometric training

NES is inviting tenders for a programme of Optometric training across Scotland to be delivered from October 2009. Full details are available on the Training page.

Statement on NICE guidelines due soon

Optometry Scotland are compiling a statement with the Scottish Eyecare Group and the Scottish Government regarding the recent NICE guidelines and will release this as soon as possible.

Peter Carson is the new Vice Chairman of Optometry Scotland

Optometry Scotland are happy to announce that Peter Carson is the new Vice Chairman. Commenting on his new post he said: "I am delighted to be elected as Vice Chairman of Optometry Scotland and look forward to supporting Gill Syme in her role as Chairman and representing my Optometry colleagues. I would like to thank all the OS Council members that voted for me and thank Kevin Wallace for making it a good contest."

Donald Cameron steps down as Vice Chairman of Optometry Scotland

Donald Cameron has stepped down from his role as Vice Chairman, but will remain on the OS Council as an Advisor. He has taken up a new position as Clinical Lead within NES. Optometry Scotland would like thank Donald for his contribution as Vice Chairman and wish him well on his new position.

Therapeutic Prescribing Course

NES have provided funding for 100 of Scotland's Optometrists to complete Independent Therapeutic Prescribing Course at Glasgow Caledonian University, places are limited and are on a first come, first served basis. More information is available from the university:
