COVID -19 Interim Update from Optometry Scotland

Interim Update 17th March 2020

Dear Colleagues,

During a helpful and productive meeting with the Scottish Government Health Department team today, Optometry Scotland has discussed proposals for ongoing support for Community Eyecare practices and Domiciliary providers. This is currently under consideration and we are pressing for a finalised position and announcement by the end of this week if possible. We also discussed how Optometry could continue to provide services via practices, triage, and other opportunities.

We are unable to make any further comments at this stage other than to advise that GOS fees will be paid as normal next week. We would urge colleagues not to make any strategic decisions until further information is available. As practitioners ourselves, we fully understand and are aware of the anxiety being experienced within the community and will update you the moment we are in position to do so.

David Quigley

Chair of Optometry Scotland
