The key point of note is that there is a difference between guidance for Health and Social Care Workers (HSCW) and the general public – namely that a HSCW should have a PCR if in contact with a case, as follows:

3b) If a staff member is a contact of a case, they should undertake a PCR test, as soon as possible, upon finding out they are a contact. They should not attend health or social care settings for work while awaiting the results of the PCR test.
