Guide Dogs Scotland launches My Time to Play

Free sensory play sessions for 0-4 year olds with a visual impairment

Charity Guide Dogs Scotland is launching My Time to Play sessions in Hamilton and Edinburgh this spring! The free seven-week block is led by Habilitation Specialists, and provides important early intervention focussing on five key areas of the child’s development: concept development, sensory skills, fine and gross motor skills, self-help and independence, communication skills. These sessions help children with sight loss aged from birth to four to develop a broad range of skills through play in a group setting, with each of the seven sessions based around a sensory story and including songs, movement, and related activities.

For families unable to travel, there is also a virtual option, and more venues TBC for later this year. Via the My Time to Play link, you can also find songbook with actions, and sensory games which parents and professionals may find useful. For a flavour of the programme, you can view a short (1 min 50) video of a My Time to Play session in Scotland here: My Time To Play | Guide Dogs children and young people services – YouTube
