Eye conditions are for Optometrists. Make them your first point of call when it comes to eye health.
Most people should have their eyes examined every two years, but certain categories will be less than two years, your Optometrist will advise you on this.
Most parts of the examination involve sophisticated pieces of equipment which allow the Optometrist to view the eyes and perform health checks without physical contact.
If you have red or irritated eyes, visit your Optometrist first. They have the magnifying equipment necessary for viewing your eyes and it saves wasting your GP's time, since they will often refer you to an Optometrist.
Never purchase contact lenses over the counter or online without having an eye and contact lens examination by a professional person. Ill-fitting lenses or unsuitable lens materials can cause damage.
Don't use out of date contact lens solutions, there's a strong chance you'll end up with an eye infection.
Always have an annual contact lens check, this is usually free if you purchase lenses regularly from your Optometrist.
If in doubt, visit your Optometrist. The eye examination is free every two years, or more frequently if you're eligible, and advice is always offered free by professionally trained staff.
