Children’s Eye Health
It is important that the health of your child’s eyes should be checked as you would their teeth or their ears. Most children have excellent eyesight and do not need to wear spectacles.Optometry Scotland recommend that your child gets their first eye exmaination from 3 years and upwards and if there is any family history or problems, your child can be seen earlier.
If there is a problem with your child’s eyesight it is important that it is picked up as early as possible so that the eyes and visual pathways develop normally. Some children may have vision screening carried out at nursery or school. This can detect eye problems, but is not a thorough eye examination as carried out by your optometrist.
